For those of you who will be using student workers this fall, you may begin to post your positions in Handshake. Please remember that there are different funding sources for Federal Work Study (FWS) and Student Assistants (SA).

Federal Work Study is federal funding which is awarded as part of a student’s financial aid award package. This is awarded based on need. FWS dollars have no impact on your budget. Students are limited to working five (5) hours per week and are paid minimum wage. Once they have reached their award total for the semester, they must discontinue working. Students must qualify for FWS each academic year; eligibilty is determined via the student's FAFSA. Only FWS eligible students who have accepted their Fin Aid package in Banner will be able to view and apply to these positions.

Student Assistants (sometimes referred to as Temp Service) are funded by your departmental budget. Approval is necessary from your department head or dean. Students can be paid more than minimum wage and may work no more than twenty (20) hours per week. Student Assistants are not required to show financial need.  When budgeting, keep in mind that minimum wage is currently $13.20/hour and will increase on 1/01/2023 to $14.20/hour.

If you are familiar with posting jobs in Handshake, feel free to do so. Please use an application start date of August 1, 2022. For those of you who are new to posting on Handshake, we have attached a brief instruction manual for you to use as a resource.
