SGU Interim Executives repurpose $7,000 to support Student Emergency Fund

The COVID-19 pandemic has created many financial burdens for our students, whether that be the inability to work over the summer or other financial hardships from the spring semester that have been exacerbated by the effects of this pandemic. With this repurposing of funds, $7,000 will go to support the Student Emergency Fund that the SUNY Poly Foundation has created to assist students with any financial hardships they are experiencing. Due to the generosity of the SUNY Impact Foundation, this gift will be matched which will bring the total gift amount to $14,000. Any student who is experiencing any financial hardship is encouraged to visit the foundations website, www.sunypoly.edu/foundation to learn more.

“Now more than ever, students need the support of their student leaders and campus community in this time of immense need. The COVID-19 pandemic has created many unexpected circumstances and challenges for our students. SGU stands ready to support our students whenever the need arises. We are really grateful that this gift was matched by the SUNY Impact Foundation and that these funds will go to direct support for our Wildcats in these unprecedented times.” -Giovanni Harvey, Interim President, Student Government at Utica

"Student Government's primary roles are to advocate for our students and to provide students with the opportunities to grow into leaders capable of tackling the most complex issues. COVID-19 has brought with it some very challenging problems to solve that require additional support in order to solve and conquer. This emergency fund is going to support our students through this difficult time and will allow our students to grow, understand the issues surrounding them, and be more impactful leaders in the future. We are very excited to see where our students can go with this support. " - Ari Papagianis, Interim Vice President, Student Government at Utica
