Campus Center Project Begins

The process of renovating the Campus Center has begun! The building, constructed in 1989, is in need of several repairs. This project, which will address those issues, also includes several transformative updates that will enhance the experience of SUNY Poly students, faculty and staff. With campus infrastructure being one of the four pillars of the university's strategic plan, this project and many others that will follow, are a monumental step in SUNY Poly charting its path to becoming the state and nation’s premier public polytechnic.

Building Access/Parking

• Building Access: The removal of trees in areas impacting the project has started, and a construction fence will soon be setup along the west side of the building. The Wellness Center and The Dish (our campus dining hall) will remain open. To access the Wellness Center, students, faculty and staff should enter from the northside of the building. An accessible ramp will soon be installed at that entrance. When accessing the dining hall, you will need to use the south entrance (one closest to the Bridge)

• Parking will also be impacted, with Lot D and a portion of Lot E remaining closed for the time being as it will be used as a construction work site. A portion of the sidewalk between Lot D and Campus Center will also be inaccessible until Fall 2024.

Project Details

• The underutilized swimming pool area will be converted into a large, tiered classroom with six additional classrooms, as well as student lounge space, with seminar rooms, bathrooms, a new set of stairs and an additional elevator.

•  Athletics: The Kevin Grimmer Court at Campus Center will receive new hardwood flooring, bleachers, lighting and scoreboards. A new athletic suite with offices, a conference room, and work room will also be constructed. The athletic spaces will also include teams’ and officials’ locker rooms, weight training, racquetball, a player’s lounge and trainer’s rooms.

• The Office for Student Affairs will be renovated with new offices, a conference room, and event space. A warm and inviting lobby will interconnect these new spaces. And finally, the architectural upgrades will include new doors and windows.

• Energy efficiency: The building will also undergo a deep energy retro-fit highlighting an all-electric heat pump system to meet heating and cooling needs. Other new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and security systems are part of the project, ensuring the building’s sustainability for years to come.
