Orphan, Ward of the Court, and/or were in Foster Care

Based on information we received from the FAFSA, our office has been advised that you are/were an “orphan, ward of the court, and/or were in foster care”.
Please provide us with documentation (as indicated below) that will support this status. It will be necessary for us to have this documentation for review before any federal financial aid (i.e., Federal Pell Grant, Federal Direct Student Loan(s)) can be disbursed.

Action(s) You Must Perform

At age 13 or older, you were in foster care. You must submit a copy of official court documentation that you are/were in foster care.
At age 13 or older, both of your parents, or both of your adoptive parents, were deceased. You must submit copies of both parents’, or both adoptive parents’, death certificates.
At age 13 or older, you are/were a ward of the court until age 18. You must submit a copy of official court documentation of your status as a ward of the court.
None of the above applies to you or one of your parents is still living.
  1. You must correct your answer(s) under the “Student Personal Circumstances” section of the FAFSA. 
  2. Provide parental information on your FAFSA.
  3. You and your parent(s) must give “consent” and resubmit the FAFSA electronically. 
  4. Once the corrected FAFSA has been processed, you will need to notify the Financial Aid Office that the appropriate corrections were made.
