Henry Cialone is a nationally respected engineering executive and innovation leader whose career reflects a deep commitment to advancing manufacturing, strengthening industry, and building partnerships that drive economic growth.
Serving as President and CEO of EWI for the past two decades before his retirement in March 2026, Dr. Cialone guided the development and implementation of cutting-edge technologies that enhance manufacturing competitiveness. He expanded the organization’s capabilities, established new operations in Buffalo, New York, and strengthened strategic public-private partnerships, including the American Lightweight Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute (LIFT). His leadership accelerated technology commercialization efforts and positioned EWI as a national leader in translating research into real-world industrial solutions.
Under Dr. Cialone’s direction, EWI launched and supported high-impact ventures based on advanced manufacturing technologies, including UltraThinSeal™, which reduces packaging film costs; Fabrisonic, a leader in ultrasonic additive manufacturing; and RealWeld Systems, which addresses critical workforce needs by accelerating welder training and certification. These initiatives reflect his focus on innovation that advances both technology and workforce development.
Prior to EWI, Dr. Cialone was an executive at Battelle Memorial Institute, where he led the commercial energy technology portfolio and served on the governing board of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science from Brown University and has completed executive programs at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and The Wharton School.
Through engineering leadership, commercialization strategy, and workforce advancement, Dr. Cialone continues to shape the future of American manufacturing.
