All J-1 Exchange Visitors (EVs) must obtain a Form DS-2019 from SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
The application for the DS-2019 must be completed at least 3 months prior to the desired start date at SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
- This allows sufficient time for review and processing of the DS-2019 application, visa application with the U.S. Embassy, and travel planning.
Individuals interested in pursuing a J-1 Exchange Visitor program at SUNY Polytechnic Institute must complete the following:
- Application to SUNY Polytechnic Institute & Application for DS-2019
- Desired program dates with SUNY Polytechnic
- Program activities and responsibilities, e.g.: research objectives, etc.
- Anticipated funding & funding sources for the desired program
- Host department/faculty will need to work with the SUNY Polytechnic Business Office and/or Office of Research to determine funding availability
- All funding sources must be determined PRIOR to Submitting the Visiting Scholar Application
- Submit the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Visiting Scholar Application and all required documents, including:
- Copy of current passport biographical page
- Copies of any current or prior U.S. Visa Stamps (if applicable)
- Current CV
- Most recent I-94 (if currently in the U.S.)
- Visiting Scholar Application Supplemental Form
- If bringing dependents:
- Copies of dependents passport biographical page
- Copies of marriage certificate (spouse only) and/or birth certificate (children only)
- Submit the Application for the DS-2019 to Immigration Services
- The DS-2019 Application documents will be sent to prospective J-1 Exchange Visitors via email, following the submission of the Visiting Scholar Application (above)
- Once the Application for the DS-2019 is completed and all requirements are submitted, the application will be reviewed.
- Application review and DS-2019 issuance may take 1-2 weeks for processing from the time of completion
- The DS-2019 will be emailed directly to the prospective J-1 Exchange Visitor and the host department/faculty upon issuance
