Collection Development

SUNY Poly Library Collection Development Policy

SUNY Poly Library's Collection Development Policy defines the types the materials the Library collects, the format of materials, the subject areas in which the Library collects, and the criteria Library staff use to evaluate material. The purpose of the Collection Development Policy is to guide Library staff in the selection of materials.

Types of Materials

The Library collects principally monographs and periodicals. The Library also collects theses of SUNY Poly students. The Library occasionally purchases DVDs.

Format of Materials

The Library prioritizes collecting material in electronic formats. Print material is purchased secondarily, as necessitated by circumstances.

Subject Areas

The library collects material chiefly related to the programs the Institution offers.

Evaluation Criteria

Library staff use criteria when evaluating material for purchase: authority, cost, currency, faculty or student request, potential use, and scope of comprehensiveness.
