Albany Business Review: Rensselaer waterfront transformation wins state funding
Mayor Dan Dwyer's vision for bringing jobs and private-sector investments to the Rensselaer waterfront will get a $1.6 million boost from New York state.
SUNY Polytechnic Institute and its founder Alain Kaloyeros plan to create a $12.5 million workforce training and educational center to attract clean energy companies to the city.
That project was awarded $1.6 million Thursday through Gov. Andrew Cuomo's economic development competition, which seeks to expand communities across New York.
Rensselaer city officials have been working for more than a decade to develop a long stretch of land along the Hudson River known as de Laet's Landing. The property that overlooks the Albany skyline is considered an untapped resource for the city of just under 9,500 people.
