The Buffalo News: Danforth plans operations hub and development
site across from SolarCity factory

The spin-off from the SolarCity project is beginning.

John W. Danforth Co. said Tuesday it is paying $1 million to buy 26.6 acres of land across South Park Avenue from the SolarCity factory from the Buffalo Economic Renaissance Corp., with plans to turn it into a site for both its new operations hub and a broader development site for other businesses.

The deal is one of the first in the area around the SolarCity factory, a sprawling 1 million-square-foot facility that is expected to employ 1,460 workers, with almost an equal amount working at companies that supply and service the factory. The more than 20 acres of land that will be available for future development on the Danforth site could be a prime location for potential SolarCity suppliers.
