PerkinElmer supplies pharmaceutical sector
PerkinElmer, a maker of high-tech equipment used in the pharmaceutical industry, is joining Albany Molecular Research Inc. in a new, multimillion-dollar drug development hub soon to open on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
The formal agreement between the two publicly traded companies is a sign of progress on the long-awaited research venture that is a piece of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s Buffalo Billion economic development initiative.
It comes 18 months after the companies’ interest in a partnership was first revealed, and 2½ years after Cuomo announced plans for a major biotech hub in Buffalo.
AMRI and PerkinElmer are the initial partners in the $250 million Buffalo Medical Innovation and Commercialization Hub. The project promises to create 250 jobs as the companies ramp up hiring here and additional pharmaceutical companies join the mix.
