Dr. Margarita Orlova, Assistant Professor of Biology at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, was recently invited to publish a review in Current Opinion in Insect Science. Her article, “Ice queens: bumble bee social organization shaped by adaptations to cold climates,” explores how ecological factors such as cold climates and short foraging seasons shaped unique social structures in bumble bee nests and unusual physiological mechanisms maintaining queen dominance.

This recognition highlights Dr. Orlova’s contributions to advancing our understanding of insect biology on an international stage. Her work not only sheds light on the fascinating dynamics of bumble bee societies but also deepens scientific insight into how environmental pressures shape the evolution of social behavior.
