In July, scholars from around the world gathered at SUNY Polytechnic Institute for GMSPD 25, a workshop where geometry met computation. For five days, mathematicians, physicists, and engineers explored how abstract ideas—like discrete exterior calculus, fibered manifolds, and structure-preserving methods — shape the way we model the physical world. From Cosserat materials to Maxwell’s equations, participants uncovered the hidden structures that keep mathematics elegant while making computation stable.

More than a meeting, it was a story of collaboration across continents, uniting curiosity and rigor to advance the frontiers of geometric mechanics and discrete differential geometry. Dr. Andrea Dziubek, Professor of Applied Mathematics at SUNY Poly, was the lead organizer of the workshop, and was assisted by co-organizers Drs. Michael Neunteufel (PSU, OR) and Michael Karow (TU Berlin, Germany).
