A Message from the Office of the President
Thursday, April 18, 2019

Dear Members of the SUNY Poly Community,

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I must inform you of the loss of SUNY Poly student Fardush Sultana. A daughter, sister, and friend, Fardush was an outstanding civil engineering student from Hudson, New York, who touched many lives. She was very active in the SUNY Poly community through her involvement in the After Hours Activity Board (AHAB) where she served as social media coordinator and the Black and Latino Student Association (BLASU). Fardush was a student-athlete, a member of the Cross Country team that won the NEAC Championship this past fall, and she gave her time as a phone-a-thon participant. She was also part of the Residential Life family, serving as a student assistant in the office. I know that you join me in conveying the deepest sorrow as we offer our condolences on behalf of the entire SUNY Poly community to Fardush’s parents and family.

As we struggle to understand this significant loss, it is important that we come together as one campus community and take time to be there for one another. While we grieve, each of us will experience a range of feelings and responses.

During this challenging time, I hope that everyone in our community knows they can reach out to connect with the wellness resources. The Residential Life Suite in the Campus Center will be open throughout the day and evening to provide support and has also supplied information about the services available to you: Utica Services (pdf). I encourage you to seek out any assistance you may need. It is important that we continue to support each other in navigating this difficult road. Services for our Albany community members can be found at: Albany Services (pdf)

The SUNY Poly community is a unique, caring, inclusive, and supportive community, and I ask that we continue to work to strengthen each other as we grieve the loss of this superb young student by listening, helping, and being kind to each other.

Sincerely,

Dr. Grace Wang
Interim President
