SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome (SUNYIT) announces two Residence Director vacancies beginning August 1, 2014. The 12 month, full-time, live-in positions are staff members of the Student Affairs Division who reports to the Director of Residential Life and Housing. Evening, weekend and on-call responsibilities are an essential component of the position.

The Residence Director/Assistant Director of Residential Life for First Year Residential Programs is responsible for establishing and maintaining an atmosphere in first year residence halls that promote the educational, cultural, social, and personal development of SUNYIT students within assigned residential living units. Responsibilities include extensive programmatic support of first year residences and ongoing assessment of the first year residential experience.

The Residence Director/ Assistant Director of Residential Programming is responsible for establishing and maintaining an atmosphere in upper-class residence halls that promotes the educational, cultural, social, and personal development of SUNYIT students within residential living units. Responsibilities include extensive programmatic support for upper-class residences and ongoing assessment of the residential experience.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

Ability to manage a variety of projects and responsibilities.

Effective organizational and time management skills.

Ability to work with diverse populations.

Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Student Personnel or related field.

Post undergraduate experience working in Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Residential Life, First Year Experience, Orientation, Student Activities or related field.

Preference will be given to applicants with first year programming experience and/or prior experience as a Hall Director.

The College:

SUNYIT, the State University of New York Institute of Technology, is New York State’s public polytechnic, offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs in technology and professional studies. The SUNYIT campus is a high-tech learning environment located on hundreds of acres near Utica, NY, in the foothills of New York’s Adirondack Mountains.

Established in 1966, SUNYIT was originally a graduate and upper-division institution. Classes were held in temporary locations and at extension sites until the first buildings were constructed on the permanent campus in the 1980s. As part of a substantial expansion in campus infrastructure, a student center, field house, and residence hall were recently completed. In support of the leadership and vision of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, and in partnership with the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science & Engineering (CNSE), the $125 million Computer Chip Commercialization Center (Quad-C) is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014.

SUNYIT students come from all over New York, many other states, and more than 20 other nations; a growing number of students also take SUNYIT courses and entire degree programs online. Academic offerings in technology (civil and electrical engineering, computer science, the engineering technologies, cybersecurity, etc.) and professional studies (business, communication, nursing, etc.) are complemented by athletics, recreational, cultural, and campus life programs, events, and activities.
