Student teams from five area colleges were among winners in the New York Business Plan Competition’s Mohawk Valley Regional Qualifier, said SUNY Polytechnic Institute, which was among the winners.

The winners, who moved on to the final round on Friday in Albany, also included teams from Utica College, Hamilton College, Mohawk Valley Community College and Morrisville State College plus others. Some were part of multi-college entries.

The regional qualifier competition drew 21 student teams from 11 accredited New York colleges and universities. They pitched business proposals for a chance to reach the final round and win part of the more than $500,000 in total prizes, said SUNY Poly.

Among local finalists:

• Overall: Kognitive LLC, which includes SUNY Poly, Utica College and SUNY ESF. The SUNY Poly-led team also was a winner in the Information Technology/Software category. A SUNY Oneonta team won in that category as well.
