Nanotechnology-inspired programs and activities will be offered Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley, Rome Family Branch, 301 W. Bloomfield St. as part of weeklong statewide activities for national “NanoDays” 2015.

The activities, open to the public, are designed to provide children and their families with an opportunity to explore nanoscale science and engineering, according to a SUNY Polytechnic Institute announcement.

At each YMCA or YMCA off-site after-school program site, children and families will be able to explore various nanoscale concepts by taking part in hands-on activities, said SUNY Poly. Among examples that may be featured: “seeing” ultraviolet wavelengths by using special “invisible markers”; exploring static electricity by floating objects on a cloud of electrons; grasping the science behind polymers by making realistic-looking snow; and understanding brainwaves by using headsets that can levitate a ball based on brain activity.
