The Mohawk Valley Hill Striders held their second annual 'Light Up The Night Run/Walk' at SUNY Poly in Marcy. The event featured a 3.2 mile walk as well as a 3.5-mile non-competitive run. It's designed to educate runners and walkers how to safely hit the road when they're out for a jog or a stroll. And this time of year...with fewer dayaylight hours... that means doing everything you can to make yourself visible to passing motorists. "We have to be conscientious of the cars. We have to make sure they see us. observe all the rules. Stay tight to the road and listen to our sights and sound and make sure they see us. that's why this is out there because everybody is so busy we want to make sure we're well illuminated so everyone can see us." The Mohawk Valley Hill Striders offers the following advice when running or walking during non-daylight hours: Wear reflective clothing and equipment like safety vests, glow armbands or lights that can attach to your shoes. Be familiar with your route. run with a buddy. And finally, lose the headphones. This will help you pay attention to your surroundings.
