SUNY Oneonta and SUNY Polytechnic Institute Summer Construction Projects Completed By DASNY
DASNY and SUNY team up for more than $3 million in upgrades
ALBANY, N.Y. (September 6, 2017) -- Gerrard P. Bushell, President and CEO of DASNY, announced today $2.2 million in upgrades have been completed at SUNY Oneonta and nearly $1 million in upgrades have been completed at SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s Utica campus. The work is part of approximately $30 million in upgrades to SUNY campuses throughout New York State that was completed by DASNY over the course of 90 days – ready in time for students to begin the fall semester.
At SUNY Oneonta, $2.2 million in improvements included replacing the roof at Huntington Hall, converting two bathrooms into laundry rooms at Hulbert Hall, giving a WiFi coverage boost to sleeping and common areas in Wilber Hall, upgrading fire systems in Wilber, Little and Sherman halls, and applying a new interior wall finish in Hayes Hall.
SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s Adirondack Hall received a $1 million roof replacement.
The projects were financed through DASNY's SUNY Dormitory Facilities Program, which issues low-cost, tax-exempt bonds supported by student residence hall fees.
“Delivering projects with speed and efficiency is DASNY’s calling card and we are proud to have completed these upgrades at SUNY Oneonta and SUNY Polytechnic on a tight schedule,” said DASNY President & CEO Gerrard P. Bushell. “Students returning this fall will find modern, supportive living environments that will help them develop into the next generation of leaders, making this work central to the growth of New York’s economy.”
"SUNY Poly is proud to offer its students the best educational experience possible, and in addition to our top-tier faculty and robust academic programs, our buildings play a key role in helping to enhance quality of student life," said Dr. Bahgat Sammakia, Interim President of SUNY Polytechnic Institute. "Keeping up our infrastructure is an essential part of operating and maintaining our vibrant, growing campus in Utica, and we are grateful for the Dormitory Authority’s work that supports providing our students with the best housing possible.”
“Summer projects on SUNY Oneonta’s campus focused on safety, technology and better use of space,” said SUNY Oneonta Vice President for Finance and Operations Todd Foreman. “Students already have noticed some of the changes, like stronger WiFi. Other improvements are relatively unseen but no less important, such as fire alarm upgrades. As always, our goal is to steadily enhance our residents’ quality of life.”
