SUNY Poly advances with significant positions in list of “Best Regional Universities,” “Best Value Schools,” “Top Public Schools,” and “Best Colleges for Veterans”

ALBANY, NY – SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s year-over-year rankings by U.S. News & World Report continue to soar as the institution has been named 12th in its “Best Regional Universities-North” ranking, moving ahead six positions from its 2019 ranking. SUNY Poly was also ranked 2nd in “Best Value Colleges” for Regional Universities-North, advancing nine positions from its 2019 ranking of 11th. Additionally, SUNY Poly climbed one position to 2nd for the “Top Public Schools” Regional Universities-North ranking.

SUNY Poly’s Utica campus is in close proximity to both the Air Force Research Laboratory—Information Directorate in Rome, New York, and the U.S. Army’s Fort Drum military reservation, reasons why SUNY Poly is also proud to be ranked 6th in “Best Colleges for Veterans,” up two positions from the institution’s 2019 rankings in the Regional Universities-North category.

"SUNY Poly’s latest rankings are a testament to our institution’s top-tier educational offerings and value, as well as our steadfast dedication to leadership in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and liberal arts fields,” said Dr. Grace Wang, Interim President of SUNY Polytechnic Institute. “I am proud of SUNY Poly’s academic achievements, world-class research, and partnerships with industry, academia, and government organizations, as well as the commitment of our faculty, staff, and students who have tirelessly worked to achieve this esteemed national recognition which positions SUNY Poly as a top institution for providing incredible value to our students.”

The annual rankings by U.S. News and World Report categorize colleges and universities based upon their Carnegie Classification, created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. SUNY Poly is included in the Regional Universities-North category and placed 12th overall out of 170 ranked universities.

The continued high rankings are an appropriate recognition of a number of aspects of SUNY Poly’s growing academic opportunities, as U.S. News & World Report maintains 10 general ranking categories, each with different weights assigned to them to determine the final institution positions. These categories include graduation and retention, social mobility, and faculty and financial resources, among others.

“The latest U.S. News and World Report rankings demonstrate the highest quality of education and value available to students here at New York State’s only public polytechnic school,” said Dr. Steven Schneider, SUNY Poly’s Interim Provost. “With access to hands-on clinical learning, online degree programs, and partnerships with military and healthcare leaders, any student accepted to SUNY Poly will attain an education one can find at no other institution.”

Over the past year, SUNY Poly has added several unique academic pathways, including the Upstate Accelerated Scholars Program (ASP) with SUNY Upstate Medical University, through which high school seniors interested in pursuing a doctoral medical degree may be simultaneously accepted to both SUNY Poly and SUNY Upstate with the benefit of having the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) waived. SUNY Poly also launched an online master’s degree program in Transformational Leadership in Nursing to complement an online baccalaureate nursing program that was implemented in fall 2018, among other exciting program opportunities.
