Bio/Pre-Med Major Receives Beeching-Revere Scholarship
Utica, NY – In support of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s commitment to provide world-class educational opportunities throughout New York State, SUNY Polytechnic Institute today announced Biology/Pre-med major Enisa Bakalovic has been named the 16th annual recipient of the Charles T. Beeching - Revere Copper Products, Inc. Family Scholarship. The $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually through the Rome College Foundation, established by Revere’s Board of Directors in memory of Charles T. Beeching.
“Enisa is a perfect example of SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s student body, which includes some of the finest young minds from around New York State and the world, and a worthy recipient of this wonderful scholarship,” said Dr. Alain Kaloyeros, President and CEO of SUNY Polytechnic Institute. “We are proud Enisa has chosen SUNY Poly, where she will have access to the cutting edge tools and resources necessary to advance her career path, and we commend her on her exemplary commitment, both to her studies and our community.”
“We are thrilled that this year’s recipient is a student at one of our local colleges, which makes Enisa’s selection even more special,” said William Guglielmo, President of the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce, which administers the award on behalf of the College Foundation. “The award is given out annually to a qualifying candidate who is the son or daughter of an employee or owner of Revere Copper Products, with additional criteria including scholastic achievement, citizenship and community involvement. Enisa was an impressive candidate in every category and we are delighted to have her as this year’s recipient.”
Enisa, the daughter of Revere employee Esef Bakalovic, was born overseas during the Bosnian conflict. Her parents moved to America to start a new life and provide Enisa with the opportunity to follow her dreams. Her interest in healthcare began at an early age, when she observed the effect birthmarks could have on one’s self esteem. Since then, Enisa’s determination to be a plastic surgeon has never wavered. Enisa has dedicated herself to completing her studies and says the Beeching-Revere scholarship will enable her to do so. After receiving her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Poly, she hopes to attend Boston University’s Medical School to fully realize her dream and begin repaying her parents for their support.
