SUNY Poly’s Online Accountancy Program Ranked Tenth in Nation

Accolades continue following a number of other recent high national rankings

Utica, NY – The high-quality educational opportunities offered by SUNY Polytechnic Institute continue to receive recognition as the online Master’s in Accountancy program ranks #10 in the nation, according to BestCollegeReviews.com. This latest ranking puts SUNY Poly in the company of such institutions such as Rutgers University (#8), St. John’s University (#6) and the University of Scranton (#3).

“We’re honored that the accounting program has deservedly garnered so much attention for the quality and value it provides to our students,” said Dr. Bahgat Sammakia, Interim President of SUNY Polytechnic Institute. “It’s with great pride that we have watched the Accounting program grow, thrive, and receive such wonderful recognition, showcasing the top-tier educational standards made possible by the faculty and staff of SUNY Poly who work hard to make our programs the best they can be for our students.”

According to BestCollegeReviews.com, the rankings were tabulated based on accounting courses that are most relevant in the job market, as well as awards or other noted recognition in the field, faculty expertise with terminal degrees in the field, flexibility of degree track, quality of online interface and resources, and other features of particular distinction.

“These rankings are examples of the outstanding education students receive at SUNY Poly. They reflect the exceptional quality of our faculty and staff to provide such a first-class education at a quality price,” said Dr. William Durgin, SUNY Poly Provost. “We are proud of our public New York institution and its continued recognition, as well as the remarkable return on investment that this program and department offers.”

This follows other recent top rankings of the program, including fifth in the nation by CollegeChoice.net, a leading authority in college and university rankings and resources, which evaluates schools based on academic quality, institutional reputation, program accreditation, and return on investment for students.

Additionally, TheBestColleges.org recently ranked SUNY Poly’s online accountancy program #14 in the nation. TheBestColleges.org states their ranking strives to connect prospective students with the best online degree programs available, reviewing all accredited online master’s in accounting programs in the United States to select 25 that provide students with a well-rounded education in a flexible learning environment.

“Once again our cutting-edge graduate accountancy program has been recognized for its relevancy and value,” said Dr. Robert Edgell, Interim Dean of the College of Business Management. “These rankings are a reflection of our faculty and staff's deep dedication to continuous improvement and student-centered learning. Building on this momentum, our faculty recently launched new forensic accounting and valuation courses with the aim of keeping our curriculum at the forefront of accounting education. I applaud our entire team, students, and alumni for this momentous achievement.”

The SUNY Poly Master of Science in Accountancy program is primarily intended for students who have the equivalent of an undergraduate degree in accounting. Students who may not have a background in accounting but desire the opportunity to broaden their capabilities and specialize in this area are afforded the option of doing so. These students are required to include additional preparatory work in their program and complete it under the guidance of the program coordinator.

According to the Labor Bureau, the accounting profession is projected to grow 11% from 2014-2024. In general, employment growth of accountants and auditors is expected to be closely tied to the health of the overall economy, with more workers in this field needed to prepare and examine financial records as the economy grows.
