SUNYIT among top New York colleges for future service members
SUNYIT is 12th in a ranking of top colleges in New York State for future members of the armed services. The College Database ranked post-secondary institutions in New York that were both affordable – annual tuition less than $20,000 – and offered at least two ROTC programs – Army, Navy, or Air Force. The evaluation looked at four-year, degree-granting institutions and excluded private for-profit colleges.
"As New York’s public polytechnic, SUNYIT is an affordable choice for students interested in a broad range of career paths, including service to our country," said Jennifer Ninh, director of admissions. "We have a long tradition of supporting both veterans and future members of the armed services."
In other recent rankings, SUNYIT was named 35th in a nationwide "Best Colleges for the Money" ranking of more than 1,200 institutions evaluated by College Factual, an online guide to the college selection process; and SUNYIT was 35th on AffordableCollegesOnline.org's list of colleges and universities in New York with the greatest lifetime return on investment. U.S. News & World Report's 2013 edition of "America's Best Colleges" named SUNYIT one of the top 25 public schools in the "Regional Universities-North" category.
"Everyone talks about service members using their GI Bill to go back to school, but rarely do people discuss current students using college to join the service," said Wes Ricketts, vice president and general manager of The College Database. "Colleges with ROTC programs give students a great opportunity, not only to explore military service, but to gain valuable leadership skills coveted by employers."
The College Database is a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to provide free information about educational options both nationally and locally to students, parents, and other interested parties. This goal is accomplished by making all information and tools on the site free and easy to access. While still a fairly young company, The College Database has become a leader in providing educational information to libraries, high schools, and career centers across the country.
