SUNYIT has been named a "Military Friendly School" for 2014, a designation by G.I. Jobs magazine awarded to only 20% of all colleges and universities in the country.

G.I. Jobs has published the Guide to Military Friendly Schools and accompanying website (www.militaryfriendlyschools.com) since 2009. The 2014 guide includes more than 1,800 schools that represent the top 20 percent of U.S. colleges, universities and trade schools doing the most to educate America’s veterans. These schools offer military students the best services, programs, discounts, scholarships, clubs, networking and staff. The Guide also explains the Post-9/11 GI Bill and offers articles and advice for planning and executing a military education.

SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher commended SUNYIT and other SUNY campuses for their military-friendly designation. "SUNY is a leader in assisting military personnel in the transition to civilian life after their service to our country, and we take great pride in providing New York's returning service men and women with higher education," said Chancellor Zimpher.

G.I. Jobs magazine is the premier publication for men and women who are transitioning from military to civilian life. It provides education, transition assistance, and job opportunities. The 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. The Military Friendly Schools website, militaryfriendlyschools.com, features the list, interactive tools and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs and preferences.
