IBM announced Friday that 220 of its microelectronics engineers and scientists at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Albany would be placed under the IBM Research division.
The move is part of the process of IBM’s plan to spend $3 billion over five years on cutting-edge computer chip research even as it hands off its chip-manufacturing unit to GlobalFoundries.
IBM employs hundreds at SUNY Poly who work on both computer chip and server research and development.
