The best start-ups from universities across the state were battling Friday at SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s new ZEN building at the New York Business Plan Competition, whose top sponsor is SEFCU, the Albany-based credit union.
UMA Bioseed, a student company from Cornell, won the $100,000 grand prize as well as first place in the energy-sustainability track. UMA Bioseed has developed an organic seed coating that protects seeds from ”bacteria, fungi, and virus during its germination phase.” The start-up’s organizers say there is no solution currently that does all three.
