"Star Wars"-themed family day planned at children's museum
Albany
SUNY Polytechnic Institute's annual "Nanovember" events continue this weekend by taking Capital Region families into the science behind "Star Wars."
Saturday's family day will take place at the CNSE Children's Museum of Science and Technology. One workshop will investigate "the force" that drives magnetism, and an afternoon activity will guide children in making the franchise's famous light sabers — out of LED lights, batteries, circuits, tongue depressors and parchment paper.
"It's really been fascinating to see how you can connect to these clever ideas, to help kids get a grasp for what exactly it does mean," museum Vice President Catherine Gilbert said.
The event is the latest this month that aims to call attention to state nanotechnology achievements and inspire residents — young and old — to learn more about the field.
