Title IX on the 9th
This month, SUNY Poly’s Title IX Working Group would like to provide some information about the role of Title IX Coordinators at our sites.
Why does SUNY Poly have Title IX Coordinators?
Title IX requires all school districts, colleges, and universities receiving Federal financial assistance to designate at least one employee to coordinate Title IX compliance. The Title IX Coordinators, with the assistance of the Title IX Working Group, play essential roles in helping ensure that every person affected by the operations of an educational institution is aware of their rights under Title IX.
What are the roles and responsibilities of the Title IX Coordinators?
With the support of the Title IX Working Group, SUNY Poly Title IX Coordinators work to ensure Title IX compliance by:
- Coordinating SUNY Poly’s responses to all complaints involving possible sex discrimination (See pages 39-40 of the Student Handbook for SUNY Poly’s definitions for sexual and interpersonal violence https://www.sunypoly.edu/pdf/student_handbook.pdf)
- Providing information about available remedies and resources to those affected by Title IX issues
- Coordinating interim measures and accommodations such as changes in academic, housing, employment, transportation or other applicable arrangements (See Section III Protection and Accommodations of SUNY Poly’s Sexual Violence Response Policy https://www.sunypoly.edu/home5/cmsfiles/Sexual_Violence_Response_Policy_FINAL_FALL_2016.pdf)
- Assisting with the communication of SUNY Poly Title IX policies and procedures on sex discrimination, including the college’s grievance procedure ( https://www.sunypoly.edu/titleix/policies-procedures)
- Assisting with the collection and analysis of information from climate surveys
- Monitoring outcomes on Title IX issues and assessing the effects on the campus climate
- Training the campus community on sex discrimination, including sexual harassment and sexual violence
- Maintaining a centralized record of reports and complaints for all investigations of sex discrimination
- Identifying and resolving patterns of harassment
