Utica Observer-Dispatch: State's technology architect
envisions bright future for region

The region still is soaking up the happy news that two major technology companies are setting up shop in Marcy.

But is the area ready for the changes that will come with General Electric and Austria-based AMS, and the 2,500 jobs they and others involved will bring? And what will happen to SUNY Polytechnic Institute over the next few years?

Alain Kaloyeros, president and CEO of SUNY Poly and the mastermind behind the state’s technology corridor, discussed these and other issues with the Observer-Dispatch Editorial Board Wednesday.

What’s coming is real, and this is only the beginning, he said.

“We went through it in Albany,” he said of the technology revolution there. “And in Buffalo with the Buffalo Billion. Utica is the middle. This is the Mohawk Valley Billion. You got your billion, guys."
