Micro Credential in Healthcare Revenue Cycle Forensics
Program Overview
The HIM program offers a micro credential in Healthcare Revenue Cycle Forensics, effective Fall 2026. Designed to provide a practical foundation in healthcare reimbursement and forensic analytics, this micro credential includes the following courses:
- HIM 111 – Medical Terminology (3 credits)
- HIM 370 – Survey of Healthcare Revenue Cycle Methods (3)
- HIM 430 – Health Data Analytics (3 credits)
- HIM 460 – Healthcare Revenue Cycle Forensics Project (3)
- Prerequisites: HIM 370 and HIM 430
HIM 111 is required as a preparatory course for students who are not majoring in HIM or do not have a background in a medical-related field. The microcredential can be completed within two semesters, with HIM 370 and HIM 430 taken in the first semester and HIM 460 in the second semester.
Eligibility and Audience
This microcredential is open to:
- SUNY Poly undergraduate students, particularly those in the HIM program or related fields
- Healthcare professionals with at least an associate degree
- Individuals with RHIT or RHIA credentials seeking to specialize in claims auditing or fraud detection and prevention
- Community members or professionals seeking career advancement in healthcare analytics
- All applicants must have completed a college-level statistics course with a grade of C or higher.
- While a healthcare background is recommended, it is not required.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the microcredential, students will be able to:

- Analyze claims and reimbursement data using healthcare analytics tools
- Apply forensic techniques to identify irregularities in billing and claims
