Can I transfer my college credit courses and/or AP/IB credits?
Students may earn college credit while in high school through several avenues, including Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and college courses.
College Credit
- Students must earn a grade of C or better in an accredited college course to receive transfer credit.
AP Credit
- AP credit in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or physics will fulfill SUNY Poly's requirement for satisfactory completion of one laboratory course in the physical sciences when a score of 4 or 5 is earned on the applicable AP examination.
- Other AP examinations generally require a score of 3 or higher to receive credit.
- Students should check with faculty in their academic program to determine how AP credit will apply toward program requirements.
IB Credit
Individual IB courses are evaluated by faculty in the appropriate academic discipline. Faculty determine the required achievement level, the number of credits awarded, any equivalent SUNY Polytechnic Institute course, and the degree or program requirements the credit may satisfy.
- Higher Level (HL) courses: An IB test score of 4–7 may earn 3–9 credits, based on review by the appropriate faculty.
- Standard Level (SL) courses: An IB test score of 6–7 may earn 3–4 credits, based on faculty review.
- Credit for Standard Level courses is awarded only to students who have completed an IB Diploma.
Certain academic programs may not accept IB credit toward specific program requirements. Students should check with faculty in their academic program to determine how IB credit will apply.
IB courses cannot be used to fulfill SUNY Polytechnic Institute's Upper Division Writing Requirement.
