Federal Work Study (FWS)

Federal Work Study is an undergraduate financial aid award. Students are limited to working five hours per week in work-study positions in campus offices and are paid minimum wage. Wage rates may differ in regions outside New York City, Long Island, and Westchester.

Students must qualify for FWS each academic year. Eligibility is determined through the student's FAFSA. Only FWS-eligible students who have accepted their financial aid package in Banner will be able to view and apply for these positions.

Student Assistant Positions

Student Assistant positions are funded by campus departments and are offered at their discretion when funding is available. Positions may include research assistants, teaching assistants, and tutors.

These positions are not based on economic need and are open to students who meet the criteria outlined in the job description.

Student Assistants may work no more than 20 hours per week. Hourly wages may exceed the region's New York State minimum wage and are determined by the hiring unit.

Graduate Assistantships

A variety of graduate assistantship positions are available each semester to support SUNY Poly faculty. Opportunities may include serving as a research, teaching, or lab assistant.

Returning full-time graduate students are eligible to apply for these positions through Handshake to support their second or third semester of study.

Funding is limited, and the selection process is competitive. Compensation is provided as a stipend. The number of hours required and stipend amount vary by position.

Campus Dining Services

SUNY Poly partners with Aramark for campus dining and catering services. Students interested in dining employment can ask about available positions at campus dining locations, including the Campus Center dining hall and Student Center.
