Satellite Teleconferences

Instructional Resources offers C and Ku Band satellite reception services for delivery of satellite teleconferences. This activity involves the reception of a program via satellite for viewing on a large screen or on a TV set. The satellite signal is received in Instructional Resources and sent over campus cable TV for viewing. Participant feedback in the form of questions or interaction, is accomplished by a standard telephone or FAX.

Requirements

  1. Reserve a room that contains a multimedia projector with interconnection to campus cable TV system. In lieu of a projector, a television set can also be used for viewing the program. The Kunsela Hall Auditorium, Dining Halls, and all conference rooms have campus cable TV reception capability.
  2. Notify Instructional Resources of location and time, and provide the Satellite Coordinates and other technical information.
  3. Arrange for the room to have a telephone with outside dial access through Dave Rose at ext. 7155.
  4. In lieu of or in additon to viewing, satellite program can be videotaped and a tape or DVD copy provided.

Audio Conferencing

Using a specialized speaker phone called a conference phone, a telephone number is dialed and parties at each end are able to speak and hear each other. Requirements:

  1. Reserve conference phone from Instructional Resources Center (X 7180)
  2. Room must have an Analog Phone Connection (Check with Dave Rose)
  3. If an outside line needs to be dialed, phone line must have outside and long distance access. (Check with Dave Rose to obtain authorization code if needed)
  4. Obtain phone number to call or provide phone number for party to call in.
  5. Pre-registration activities sometimes provide you with a session number and pin that is asked for when you dial-in.

 

Web Conference or Webcast

This combines an Audio Conference with Computer based Webcast. The program visuals (powerpoint slides) are viewed through a web browser running on a computer. The program audio - sound is received via conference telephone. In most cases the computer visuals are viewed in a room with a multimedia projector projecting a large image on a screen.

Requirements

  1. Reserve conference phone from Instructional Resources Center (X 7180)
  2. Reserve a room that contains a multimedia projector connected to a computer with internet access. If you need technical assistance at the start of the web cast, indicate so at the time of room reservation and equipment booking.
  3. Room must have an Analog Phone Connection (Check with Dave Rose)
  4. If an outside line needs to be dialed, phone line must have outside and long distance access. (Check with Dave Rose to obtain authorization code if needed)
  5. There is usually a web client that needs to be loaded ahead of time. The pre-registration activities also provide you with web link address for the conference along with a log-in conference/session # and password/pin that is entered when you log-in the web site.
  6. Pre-registration activities sometimes provide you with a telephone number and conference/session number and pin that is asked for when you dial-in the phone line.

 

Video Conference

Interactive Audio/Video Conference using specialized equipment and standards. Participants can view remote location(s) and interact with participants. For origination of material, a combination of mediums are available including computer, videotape, document camera and smart board. Limited to Kunsela Hall rooms A131 and C002 which can accommodate 24 participants.

Requirements

  1. Contact Instructional Resources to reserve and schedule this location.
  2. Contact Instructional Resources for technical specifics including ISDN number or IP address of remote site(s).
  3. Connection with more than one remote location requires special outside bridging service.
  4. Instructional Resources can provide cost estimate for desired activities.

 

Interactive Web Based Computer Training

This combines an Audio Conference (see above) and Webcast (see above) with interactive computer training.

Requirements

  1. Room location must contain individual computer workstations connected to the internet to allow participants to have hands on experience. In addition to viewing a large screen and hearing audio instruction/interaction, participants interact with computer through web or using specific software program(s).
  2. See requirements for Webcast (see above) as these requirements must also be met.

 

Distance Learning

Interactive Audio/Video Distance Learning facility is available for classes, conferences and meetings by internal and external community users. Using compressed video conference technology over ISDN or IP, the facilities located in Kunsela Hall rooms A131 and C002 can receive (remote instructor) or originate (local instructor) material such that participants can view remote location(s) and interact with individuals at the other site(s). For origination of material, a combination of mediums are available including computer, videotape, document camera and smart board. The room can accommodate 24 participants. Interconnection to more than one site requires the external contracting of a "bridge services". For evening and weekend activities a separate technical support person must be brought in to operate this facility.

Uplink Services

The Instructional Resources Center offers Ku Band Satellite Uplinking services for internal and external clients. Coupled with a full television broadcast studio and control room, live or taped program material can be sent via satellite. Facility includes telephone IFB and PL phone connectivity and a 800 toll free call-in line for interactive viewer feedback.
