Green Team LogoSUNY Poly Makes A Commitment - And You?

"A solid waste & recycling audit of the SUNY Poly Utica campus was conducted on April 24, 2013. During the waste audit, various waste reduction and recycling opportunities were identified. The audit focused on Kunsela Hall, which contains both offices and classrooms with a large volume of students and staff throughout the building.

Based on the Solid Waste & Recycling Review, the campus implemented single stream recycling in cooperation with the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority (OHSWA) starting August, 2014, and is now following the Counties’ RecycleOne – One and Done Program.

Collecting recyclables is now easier than ever! Here’s how it works:

1. All recyclable items – paper, plastic, metal, and glass – should be mixed together loosely in one “RecycleOne” bin.

2. Recyclables can be collected in plastic bags, however they must be dumped loosely into recycling dumpsters with NO plastic bags, NO string, NO trash, and NO food.

3. The one exception to the “no bag” rule is: shredded paper may be collected in a clear plastic bag and placed in the RecycleOne dumpster.

OHSWA RecycleOne flyers have been provided to each department or office to help everyone understand what is and is not recyclable under the new RecycleOne – One and Done Program. A link to the flyer is available here.

Facilities staff worked with care to properly label RecycleOne bins and place a RecycleOne bin next to each trash bin throughout each campus building. In addition, OHSWA staff are working closely with Residential Life staff and Student Orientation leaders to implement this change successfully.

Thanks for your support and cooperation during this exciting transition!"
