Mitsubishi Chemical is joining SUNY Polytechnic Institute's chemical mechanical planarization center in Albany, New York.
The center is a joint project between SUNY Polytechnic Institute and Sematech, a consortium of computer chip makers and suppliers that design and manufacture chips used in devices such as cell phones and calculators.
Chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) is a polishing process used to remove unwanted materials from silicon wafers, the discs on which computer chips are etched.
