Momentum is building in the Albany region as more scientists are developing next-generation products in the fields of energy, computer chip manufacturing, solar panels and biotechnology.
The area is home to 23 colleges that attract more than 78,000 students and researchers from around the world.
Some 3,000 scientists and engineers at the GE Global Research center in Niskayuna are developing a new wave of technology that will lead to new products in health care, energy and aviation.
Research at the site led to the development of General Electric’s new fuel cell business last year. That operation is now headquartered about 30 minutes away in the town of Malta in Saratoga County.
