The Daily Star: Summit suggests fixes for workforce woes

The Daily Star Savino was among four panelists who discussed training, educational programs and the needs of businesses and industries. Other panelists were Franca Armstrong, associate vice president of Workforce Development at Mohawk Valley Community college, Joseph Booan, director of student programs at the Otsego Northern Catskill Board of Cooperative Educational Services and Robert Geer, senior vice president and chief operating officer of SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

Geer said the numbers are increasing of students who enroll to earn a four-year degree after graduating with a two-year degree, then working. The trend reflects an "idea of stackability" in earning credentials and degrees, he said.
