NEAC: Final Four Teams Determined for NEAC Women's Basketball Tournament
With Tuesday’s divisional matchups complete, four teams have secured a place in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women’s Basketball Final Four. The semifinal and final round of the tournament will be hosted by NEAC Regular Season Champion and top-seeded SUNY Poly on Feb. 24-25.
After the conclusion of Tuesday’s divisional matchups, the four remaining teams were reseeded. The first semifinal game will feature No. 4 Penn State Abington versus No. 1 SUNY Poly on Saturday at 2 p.m. The second semifinal will follow at 4 p.m. with No. 2 Keuka College meeting No. 3 Gallaudet University. The winners of the semifinal matchups will meet in the championship game on Sunday at 2 p.m. The tournament champion will receive an automatic berth to the 2018 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament.
North Division
Game 1: No. 4 Cazenovia College 63, No. 1 SUNY Poly 88
After gaining a comfortable 28-15 lead at the end of one quarter, SUNY Poly never relinquished its lead to earn an 88-63 victory over Cazenovia College and the right to host the NEAC Final Four. SUNY Poly senior Khristaijah Jackson (Levittown, Pa.) had a memorable night with 20 points and 12 rebounds, which included her 1,000th career point. Sophomore Kiersten Leos (Camden, N.Y.) chipped in a game-high 21 points in the SUNY Poly win. Cazenovia College’s Kelli Shepardson (Little Falls, N.Y.) led all players with 13 rebounds while the trio of Skylar Girard (Glens Falls, N.Y.), Morgan DeLand (Camillus, N.Y.) and Danielle Caivana (Frankfort, N.Y.) each hit double-figures. SUNY Poly pushes its record to 20-6 overall while the Cazenovia season ends at 10-15.
