The 2nd annual Team Drone Challenge doesn’t take flight until 2019, but registration is fast approaching.

The CNY Drones event, alongside the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) University Model Aviation Student Club, and the SUNY Poly 3D Printing & Design Club has put together this season’s competition with exciting elements to challenge all skill levels in a challenge called “Forest Fury.”

The event takes place at SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s Utica campus April 7, 2019.

Organizers say junior high, high school, and college teams are encouraged to take part and that they can help tech clubs and schools get started or help with the formation of an original team.

Teams of 2-5 students, ages 11 and up are encouraged to register beginning September 30 during the 3rd Annual Drone Info Day at SUNY Poly at a cost of $50 per team. Registration remains open until January 31, 2019, or until all team slots are filled. Late registration, if available costs $100.

CNY Drones is a volunteer group providing STEM-focused experiences that spark and maintain interest in drone technology. Their goal is to encourage exploration of the educational and employment pipeline created by New York's unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Test Corridor.
