Rome Sentinel: Area curling teams compete in national championships
Three area colllege curling teams, SUNY Poly, Colgate University and Hamilton College competed in the sixth annual USA Curling National Championships in Eau Claire, Wisc., on March 9-11.
The University of Wisconsin Stevens-Point won its second national curling title with an 8-3 victory over the University of Nebraska in the championship final of the event. UWSP was skipped by Megan Benski and this is the second time in three years the team has won the title.
SUNY Poly won three games in the tournament and advanced to the championship round when they defeated Harvard in a tie breaker match 10-2. In their quarter final game against number one seeded University of Pennsylvania SUNY Poly was defeated in a close match 6-5 eliminating them from competition.
