About 35 teams of students will be putting their creations to the test at the Central New York 2018 FIRST Robotics Competition on Friday through Sunday at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, the college said.

The FIRST event, in SUNY Poly’s Wildcat Field House, follows six weeks of designing, building and programming original robots, said SUNY Poly. FIRST refers to For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.

The competition, for grades 9-12, will see see students and their mentors demonstrate skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as they compete to earn a spot at the international FIRST Championship in Michigan and Texas in April, SUNY Poly said.
