“Nine thousand people for the Micron fab, plus another 40,000 people for the ancillary businesses — that’s a huge number, and it’s really gonna take a consortia of effort across New York state, certainly Central New York and the Mohawk Valley, but really across New York state to satisfy these educational needs,” Carpenter said.
Carpenter said SUNY Poly’s campuses are in a great position to prepare students for these jobs. The Utica campus prides itself on providing students with “foundational material and hands-on practical experiences."
