Times Union: Economy size
I wanted to share with you the following article that was published by the TImes Union:
Affordability of housing reflects an area's job market
The century-old Victorian boasts five bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths and a fireplace.
With 2,500 square feet of living space on a more than half-acre lot, it's selling for just $79,900.
Why so inexpensive? It's in Gloversville, where the unemployment rate in November was 6.6 percent, nearly 2 full percentage points higher than the Capital Region's 4.7 percent rate.
The story is much the same in other parts of upstate. Where there's a weak job market, homes are a bargain.
And where the jobs are, you'll pay far more for a house.
