Beth Post doodled on a black car parked outside at SUNY Polytechnic Institute Saturday afternoon.

But don’t worry – she was allowed to. She was even encouraged.

“I’m just here supporting my friends,” said the illustration teacher of Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica. “But, I’m also really into the arts.”

This exhibit was just one of more than 45 seen across the campus for the school’s first Mini Makers Faire, a four-hour event. Others included: 3D printing, live video drones, puppetry, poetry, modern dance and music.

“Maker Faires are like big celebrations of (do it yourself) making,” said organizer Daryl Lee, also an associate professor of humanities at the college. “We’ve combined artists and technology … We’re moving toward building a creative culture.”
