WENY: Students put robotics to the test in third annual "FIRST Tech Challenge"
CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- High school students from across western New York put their engineering skills to the test in Corning on Sunday.
Twenty-one teams competed in the third annual "FIRST Tech Challenge" at the Corning-Painted Post High School Gymnasium.
Corning Incorporated sponsored the event to promote mechanical engineering among high school students.
"So Corning is an innovation company," said Corning Incorporated Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Christine Pambianchi. "We invent things for a living and we want to see more scientists, engineers, IT, data analysts professionals since we're trying to participate in making STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fun for kids and seeing how they can apply those skills right now in their teen years."
Teams built their very own robots to compete in tasks like picking and sorting through blocks.
