SUNY Polytechnic (Poly) Institute is showcasing many of the exciting opportunities in Central New York

The state college located in Marcy hosted “Manufacturing Day” for local manufacturers, businesses, educators and students on October 16. Dozens of Whitesboro High School students attended.  manufacturingday6.jpgThe free community expo featured exhibits from more than 60 companies and organizations from across New York state. Each showcased their technology and products to students, many of whom are interested in the manufacturing sector.“SUNY Poly’s manufacturing expo provides a chance for everyone to learn about New York state’s exciting high tech manufacturing industry and will hopefully inspire attendees to be a part of its continued future growth,” said Dr. Alain Kaloyeros, President and CEO of SUNY Poly. “It’s critically important that students, educators and jobseekers throughout the region can both understand and access the opportunities emerging before them.”

SUNY Poly’s “Manufacturing Day” was sponsored by Indium Corporation. The expo also included tours of the Quad-C Computer Chip Commercialization Center at SUNY Poly and the FABLab and Mechatronics Lab at Mohawk Valley Community College, in Utica.

Earlier this year, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced General Electric and Austrian company AMS are coming to SUNY Poly and Marcy, bringing roughly 1,500 additional jobs and billions of dollars in private investment to “Nano Utica” - - a consortium spearheaded by the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science & Engineering (CNSE), leading technology companies and SUNY Poly.

According to Governor Cuomo, General Electric will be the anchor tenant at SUNY Poly’s Quad-C, while AMS will support the creation of a 360,000-square-foot wafer fabrication facility in Marcy. Construction is set to begin next spring.

Cuomo says as many as 4,000 jobs could be created by 2025.
