ALBANY - Researchers at SUNY Polytechnic Institute are working on an anti-viral drug that relies on nano-technology.
The payoff may be a new way to treat cancer along with some deadly viruses. They're doing it without drugs as we know them.
“We can turn any protein on and off in a cell,” explained Dr. Scott Tennenbaum of SUNY Polytechnic-CNSE.
That can kill a virus.
This is the heart of Dr. Tennenbaum's work. He is an associate professor of nano-bio science.
Using nano-scale science applied to the study of biology, he saw what Mother Nature did when it comes to stopping a virus in its tracks and as he puts it, he hijacked that information and harnessed it.
