Mission
The mission of the Civil Engineering program at SUNY Poly is to provide quality undergraduate studies in Civil Engineering. The goals of the program are to prepare students to enter professional careers and graduate study, and to find employment in their field after graduation. The program values and encourages academic and intellectual achievement of the highest quality and the technical competencies inherent to the field of Civil Engineering. The faculty are committed to the integration of these elements into a coherent program of higher education.

Program Educational Objectives

The educational objectives of the CE program at SUNY Poly are to develop graduates that:

  • Use fundamental theory, analysis, and design proficiently as civil engineers, project managers, or team leaders, to serve the needs of society and the profession.
  • Provide solutions to engineering problems in the context of cost-effective, environmental, ethical, sustainable, and societal constraints.
  • Grow professionally throughout their careers in both technical and management skills through professional licensure, continuing professional education, and lifelong learning.
  • Excel in leadership positions through the use of effective communication with diverse audiences.

Student Outcomes

The Student Outcomes for the Civil Engineering Program are identical to the ABET Criteria 3 Student Outcomes, and are listed below.

  • Have an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
  • Have an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
  • Have an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.
