The Master of Science program in Data Science and Analytics (MS DSA) prepares students to be productive contributors in many professions dealing with complex data, in particular those that relate to the ethical collection, exploration and preparation of multi-modal data, the design of analytics models to extract knowledge from data, and the effective communication of data analysis results to decision-making constituencies.
MS DSA requires the acquisition of fundamental knowledge and skills through six compulsory courses in statistical analysis and design of experiments, script language programming, visual communication, machine learning, and distributed data processing. Four elective courses must also be completed within a single area of specialization (e.g. computer science, mathematics, sociology, etc.) or across more than one area with advisor approval. The program culminates with an internship in an industrial organization, a practical project, or a more research-oriented thesis.
MS DSA draws upon SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s outstanding academic talent in computer science, mathematics, social and behavioral sciences, biology, communications, business management, nanoscale engineering, nanoscale science, and health sciences and nursing. MS DSA students have the opportunity to interact and work with faculty of diverse research and teaching interests.
