Garrett Hassard is the Sports Information Student/Graduate Assistant for SUNY Poly Athletics.

Hassard got interested in Sports Information from his inspiration, his father Geoff. Growing up, he watched him revolutionize the department of SUNY Oneonta by being a catalyst behind live-streaming Division III sports; and most prominently streaming one of the first Women’s Soccer Championship matches in 2003 where SUNY Oneonta defeated Chicago 2-1 in Overtime. He would help out his dad whenever he needed it, whether that meant calling a basketball game or inputting statistics for a softball doubleheader; and this experience made Hassard’s transition into the department at SUNY Poly a smooth one.

As a student-athlete, Hassard is a four-year starter and a team captain for the Wildcats Men’s Volleyball team. He is currently third in program history in total blocks and block assists with 179 and 136 respectively, fourth in solo blocks with 43, and fifth in blocks per set with 0.70. On the attack, he also holds fifth in program history with a .309 hitting percentage. Hassard was also the Treasurer of the SUNY Poly S.A.A.C. for two years, and named a NEAC Scholar-Athlete for the past three years.

Outside of the Athletics office, Hassard remained active in the SUNY Poly community. He served as the Treasurer of the Student Government at Utica (SGU), started a recreational weight-lifting club (SUNY Poly Gainz Club), and participates in most of the events put on by the Wildcat Events Board. Hassard has also been an Orientation Advisor for the Class of 2021 and 2022. Before assuming the role of Treasurer, Hassard got into the Assistant Treasurer position to learn the background of the financial policies that are used for running SGU and its six subsidiary organizations. These organizations put on events that are funded by the mandatory Student-Activity Fee all full-time students at SUNY Poly pay each semester, and Hassard is also the manager of the budget that allocates all of those funds.

Hassard has his undergraduate degree in Accounting with a minor in Finance from SUNY Poly. He is currently in the M.S. program for Accountancy with a concentration in Forensic Accounting while being a Graduate Assistant for the Athletics office.

Hassard is from Oneonta, New York where he grew up for most of his childhood. He graduated from Oneonta Senior High School in 2016 where he was involved in numerous extracurricular activities. He enjoys going back home to his parents, Irene and Geoff, and his brother, Gunnar, during school breaks and occasional weekend visits.
