Wayne Westervelt
Wayne A. Westervelt brings more than 30 years of experience in the fields of marketing, communications, media and public affairs, including supervisory roles at SUNY Oswego, Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF), Cazenovia College and in the public sector as a Communications/Public Information Manager for the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board.
He has been employed in higher education since 2004, most notably as Chief Communication Officer and a member of the President’s Cabinet at SUNY Oswego from 2016 to 2023, and Vice President for Marketing and Communications at Cazenovia College from 2004 to 2015, where he led the creation of the college’s first-ever integrated marketing plan, crisis communications plan, and rebranding initiatives.
During his time at SUNY Oswego, Wayne led the university’s overall marketing, media relations and strategic communications planning; implemented visibility and branding initiatives; and developed an integrated marketing strategy for the institution. He transformed a small Public Affairs Office into a robust, integrated, strategic marketing and communications operation predicated on enrollment growth, partnership building, and community engagement.
Westervelt earned his Bachelor of Art degree in English/communications from Le Moyne College and then earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
